Road Conditions along The Great Southern Parkway

Use these official resources before you leave, especially during winter or after severe weather.

Oversized Vehicle Advisory

There are tunnels and road sections on the Great Southern Parkway that are not well suited to large Class A RVs or fifth wheels. To err on the side of caution, travelers with larger rigs should treat the Blue Ridge Parkway as problematic above 10 feet 6 inches in height and treat Skyline Drive as problematic for rigs around or above 35 feet in length unless the official authorities for those sections specifically confirm otherwise. Official National Park Service guidance also shows Blue Ridge Parkway tunnel clearances varying by tunnel, with some minimum edgeline clearances as low as 11 feet 7 inches, and Shenandoah National Park advises drivers to make sure they can clear Marys Rock Tunnel at 12 feet 8 inches.

Please do not take our word for it. Contact the official authorities for each road section to verify current size limits, tunnel clearances, length restrictions, closures, and routing guidance before you travel. If your rig is anywhere near those limits, RV-specific GPS software is strongly advised. Helpful official references: Blue Ridge Parkway tunnel heights and Marys Rock Tunnel.
