Scenic Drive Guide

The Great Southern Parkway

One Route. Five Legendary Roads. The Soul of the American Southeast.

What Is The Great Southern Parkway?

The Great Southern Parkway is a scenic journey through the heart of the southeastern United States, offering historic roads, mountain overlooks, cultural destinations, and some of the region's most iconic driving sections. The route begins in Natchez, Mississippi, north of New Orleans, Louisiana, works north through Nashville, Tennessee, and Asheville, North Carolina, and finishes near Washington, D.C.

The trip first follows the Natchez Trace Parkway, then moves east toward Nashville before climbing onto the Cherohala Skyway. From there, the route brushes past Gatlinburg, Tennessee, and the Tail of the Dragon, crosses Great Smoky Mountains territory, joins the Blue Ridge Parkway, and eventually becomes Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park in Virginia.

The Great Southern Parkway is designed for travelers who love scenic roads, regional character, mountain landscapes, and the satisfaction of linking several legendary drives into one unforgettable 1,500 mile journey.
